We are excited to share the latest updates on the Impacts of War project, an initiative under Operation Recovery dedicated to documenting the ongoing sacrifices made by veterans and civilians in support of our Afghan allies since Fall 2021.

Highlighting Unseen Sacrifices

Since our launch, we've documented significant data from those who participated:

  • $2.2 million in personal financial contributions have been reported, showcasing the immense financial burden individuals have shouldered to assist Afghan allies.

  • Volunteers have dedicated over 65,000 hours to evacuation and resettlement efforts, reflecting the unwavering commitment to uphold promises made.

These numbers are not just statistics; they represent real people making extraordinary sacrifices to support those affected by the Afghan conflict.

About the Impacts of War Project

The Impacts of War project is more than a data collection effort—it's a movement to bridge the gap between personal experiences and public awareness.

Our key objectives include:

  1. Documenting Sacrifices: We collect detailed accounts of veterans' and civilians' financial, emotional, and personal sacrifices.

  2. Recording Atrocities: By creating a thorough record of events before and after the fall of Kabul, we ensure these stories are preserved and heard.

  3. Driving Policy Change: The data informs congressional hearings and supports legislative initiatives like HR 4517.

  4. Honoring Promises: We highlight the ongoing commitment to Afghan allies, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling our obligations.

  5. Providing Support: Participants are connected with mental health resources through our Heroes Wellness Collective, acknowledging the emotional toll involved.

  6. Raising Awareness: Personal stories and data are used to educate the public about the true costs of war and its lasting impacts.

Your Voice Matters

Our methodology centers around comprehensive surveys that delve into:

  • Financial contributions and personal expenses

  • Time dedicated to supporting evacuation and resettlement

  • Personal and professional life impacts

  • Experiences with governmental support systems

  • Emotional and psychological effects

Every story and data point strengthens our mission to drive meaningful change and support those who have given so much.

Looking Ahead

Our intended outcomes are ambitious yet attainable with your continued support:

  • Building a comprehensive database of experiences and sacrifices

  • Producing insightful reports for policymakers and the public

  • Advocating for legislative support to assist those who've sacrificed significantly

  • Fostering a supportive community among veterans and civilians

  • Developing an Atrocities Survey: We are initiating a new survey to collect detailed accounts of atrocities affecting our Afghan allies. This effort aims to create a thorough record of these events, ensuring they are acknowledged and addressed in our ongoing mission.

  • Ensuring these crucial stories remain in the public consciousness
